Garrett Sawyer Profile
Anthem

A Happening At Manchester Square
Garrett Sawyer
The style on this album is light rock. It is, with the exception of one brief introductory instrumental, a completely vocal/lyrical work. Garrett wrote both music and lyrics and sang all vocals. He has a very strong and extensive philosophy about songwriting. Basically, he strives for originality and fresh imagery (He's often joked that his role models are Paul Simon and William Shakespeare, in no particular order)
Quotes From Reviewers
"We liked it...surprising and fun, comfortable...worth sending for." -Katherine N. Frog, Oil Magazine
"Has the mysticism and lyrical/acoustic textures of Al Stewart in a lot of ways. Garrett paints a vivid picture with the deep themes of his songwriting." -M.K. "Tarkus" O'Neil, KEOL, Lagrande, Oregon
"Using 6 and 12-string guitar as his weapon of choice, Sawyer lays out 11 remarkable tracks on 'A Happening at Manchester Square'... He comes off like a wandering minstrel, spinning Shakespearean-like tales of love, life and space travel filled with images so vibrant that they grab you and dare you to imagine them. There are so many wonderful examples of Sawyer's mastery of words that it's hard to give just one shining example... It's an independent folk rock masterpiece." -Parabrisas Magazine
"There's WAY more to this than 'just 'nother folk singer' ...The main focus is right where it SHOULD be - on his fiery and confident 6/12 string guitars... not to mention that VOICE! No question that this is a gent in touch with the energy he can generate with his music! ...If you're even the slightest bit into folk/rock with a breath of fresh air, you'll get this; it's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!" -Rotcod Zzaj, Improvijazzation Nation
"Filled with songcraft and meticulous care...his acoustic guitar, at times accented with synth strings, takes an ambling journeythrough the album, giving an atmosphere of night, stars and secrets...dramatic and touching." - Mark Brown, Orange County Register
"This album will take you "out there" and then bring you back. Trust me." -Jim Clark, Lee County Courier
